Event declared a Festivity of National Tourist Interest

On the first Sunday in August, the city of Gijón/Xixón hosts Asturias Day, which fills the streets of the city, mainly the Paseo del Muro, with music and folk dancing.

During the morning, several bagpipe bands perform around the city, while the citizens take part in popular prima folk dances in different squares and the Jira is held on the Cerro de Santa Catalina with popular meals.

The parade of Asturian folklore groups and invited national groups and a fiesta de asturianía bring the events of this day of vindication of Asturian traditions to a close.
