35th Gijón Natural Cider Festival
A festival declared to be of Tourist Interest in the Principality of Asturias

From 20 to 30 August, Gijón/Xixón is hosting a new edition of the Natural Cider Festival, one of the major events of the Gijón summer centred on cider culture. 

Highlights include the Cider and Apple Market, the cider-pouring competitions, the tastings, the Cancios de Chigre and the massive Simultaneous Cider-Pouring Record attempt on Poniente Beach, one of the festival’s most iconic moments.

The Cider and Apple Market will be held in the Jardines de la Reina from 20 to 30 August. On the 20th and 21st, it will be open from 11.00 to 23.00; from the 22nd to the 29th, from 12.00 to 23.00; and on the 30th, from 12.00 to 22.00.

  • 20 August

5.30 pm – 33rd Wine-Pouring Competition. First round. Plaza Mayor.

  • 21 August

6.00 pm – Simultaneous Wine-Pouring Record. Poniente Beach.
10.00 pm – Chigre songs ‘Un de Grao’. Plaza Mayor.

  • 22 August

12.00 – Homemade Cider Competition. Plaza Mayor.
10.00 pm – Chigre Songs. Plaza Mayor.

  • 23 August

12:00 – Cider Day and presentation of the Golden Barrel. Plaza Mayor.
12:00–14:00 – Cider tasting at the cider mills’ stalls. Plaza Mayor.
12.30 pm – Golden Commendation Award. Plaza Mayor.
2.00 pm – Closing ceremony of the festival. Plaza Mayor.

The Cider and Apple Market will continue to operate in the Jardines de la Reina until 30 August, thus extending the cider programme throughout the week.
