The museum houses a meticulous re-creation of what have been the traditional lifestyles of our people, with the presence of the traditional house, crafts and what was the canning industry and what it meant for this and other fishing villages, with the evocative re-creation of the machinery room of this old factory called "La Arenesca".
PERMANENT EXHIBITIONS
The museum is located in the east wing of the recovered canning factory. Entry is via a door situated in the pavilion annexed to the main building, where the restored canning machinery is installed, together with a panel explaining the history of this trade in the town. Once inside, the Ethnographic Museum occupies the ground floor and mezzanine, with two adjacent rooms, the archives and the boardroom. On the ground floor, you can visit: the re-creation of a traditional house with an open hearth and bedroom; the utensils that characterized the work of peasants and mariners, as well as eight traditional trades linked to country life; a fine collection of examples of traditional boat building; and two old coat of arms. On the mezzanine floor, besides the tribute to emigration and leisure, you will find an allegory of the merchant navy, with significant tools, in addition to a large collection of models related to the physical and spiritual world of mariners and a rich collection of quirky Bay of Biscay zoology.
