Info
Along its five hundred metre route, we can learn about life in the glacial period in the Picos de Europa region. This cave was occupied during the Palaeolithic period and, later, in the 18th and 19th centuries, it was used as a post stop, with the addition of an inn and a forge. Recently, the forge building and the cave were refurbished to house the Glacial Fauna Interpretation Centre, from where the guided tour of the interior of the Cave is organised.
The visit, which lasts approximately 45 minutes, allows visitors to discover what the fauna that inhabited this territory during the Pleistocene era was like, through life-size recreations of species that have now disappeared, all of which are documented in the fossil record of the area. Along the route you can see figures such as the mammoth, the giant deer, the woolly rhinoceros or the sabre-toothed tiger, as well as a reproduction of the fossil remains of a rhinoceros found in the nearby cave of Pozu de La Peruyal.
The visits take place at specific times, so it is advisable to go to the Interpretation Centre about ten minutes in advance in order to organise access at your leisure.
