Info
The Pozu Santa Bárbara Immersive Room offers an innovative way to discover the industrial mining heritage, combining audiovisual technology, digital recreations and sensory stimuli to turn the visit into a unique experience that is fully accessible and suitable for all visitors.
Designed as a modular structure built from a shipping container, the installation simulates a mine cage – the system used to transport workers, coal wagons and materials between the surface and the underground galleries. Through this unique space, visitors embark on a journey into the depths and history of the Santa Bárbara Mine, the first mining shaft to be declared a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC) in Spain.
The experience recreates the descent into the depths of the mine thanks to an audiovisual projection system and surround sound, complemented by ambient lighting and a vibrating platform. These features heighten the sense of immersion and give the public a real sense of the conditions inside a coal mine.
Furthermore, its design ensures an accessible and inclusive visit for people with disabilities or reduced mobility.
This pioneering initiative, available in five languages (Spanish, English, French, German and Asturian), offers a new way of connecting with the region’s history, memory and mining heritage.
