The former Monastery of San Esteban de Piantón is quoted among several donations made to the Church of Oviedo/Uviéu in 1079, although nothing remains of the original building.
The present church was built between the 16th and 18th centuries and the vestry seems to be the oldest part of the building (1604). The most noteworthy feature of the church is the variety of Baroque altarpieces it houses. Two of them date from the first half of the 17th century: that of Our Lady of Lourdes (1624) and that of St Joseph with the Child (1638). The other three altarpieces date from the 18th century.
