Cudillero (Western Asturias)
Turbera de las Dueñas
  • Las Dueñas Peatland is located in the borough of Cudillero, on the coastal stretch between Castañal Point and Artedo Cove, west of the town of Cudillero.

A rare example of peatland near the coast, declared a Natural Monument.

Considered the largest known coastal peatland in Asturias, with an extension of close to 27 hectares. This type of formation has been declared a priority habitat and its plant life includes various species protected by regional legislation. It forms part of the Western Coastline Protected Landscape.

The interest of this area lies not only in the vegetation that grows there, but in the peat bog itself, as this kind of ecosystem is much more common in mountain areas.
