Info
Built on the Narcea riverbed, the La Barca Reservoir is a major source of hydroelectric power and is set within a distinctly mountainous and natural landscape.
Its construction profoundly transformed this area and led to the flooding of the village of Bebares, of which only five houses remained above the water level. This event is one of the most distinctive aspects of the reservoir’s history.
Surrounded by vegetation and pine forests, the reservoir offers an ideal setting for activities such as boating, swimming and fishing. Among the species most prized by anglers are salmon and trout.
The area is also of natural interest due to the presence of waterfowl and otters, which are linked to the river ecosystems and the wetlands of the River Narcea.
La Barca, together with the nearby La Florida Reservoir, forms part of the Pilotuerto and Calabazos Reservoirs Game Reserve, further enhancing the area’s natural and wildlife appeal.
Access to the reservoir is straightforward from Tineo: take the AS-214 road to Soto de la Barca and then continue along the AS-15 towards the reservoir area.
