A good starting point to get to know Oviedo/Uviéu is the Pre-Romanesque. The fountain of La Foncalada (Gascona street) is an example. It can be followed by San Julián de los Prados, in Selgas street. Tourists can walk there and enjoy the green areas surrounding the church. Afterwards, it is necessary to climb Mount Naranco to discover Santa María and San Miguel de Lillo (check opening times depending on the time of year). They are four kilometres from the centre, so the car is a good option which will also allow you to go up to the summit.
The afternoon is an ideal time for a stroll. For a first walk, you can leave from the Renfe train station, located in a building dating from 1874. The station opens onto Calle Uría, the main shopping street. At the end of this neuralgic axis, on the right, the Campo San Francisco, on the left, La Escandalera. From this square, you can see the beginning of Calle Pelayo, with the Campoamor Theatre, the venue for the Princess of Asturias awards ceremony. At the opposite end, Fruela Street and the seat of Parliament. When the tourist enters San Francisco street, he discovers the historic building of the University of Oviedo and Porlier square, with the Camposagrado palace, which leads to the Cathedral. The street that starts on the right leads to the Corrada del Obispo and, after a brief foray into the Plaza del Paraguas, the Palacio del Sol or Palacio de Inclán and the El Fontán market, an ideal place to take a break.
Oviedo/Uviéu - Teverga 20,8
For the second day, the traveller has two possibilities, both linked to the rural area. The first option is to spend the day walking to the village of Les Caldes, famous for its hot springs and golf, along the Fuso de la Reina trail, which starts in the Winter Park and is 16 kilometres long (round trip).
The second involves getting behind the wheel to access the Bear Valleys, which are 20 kilometres (half an hour's drive) from Oviedo/Uviéu. The Senda del Oso is the perfect route to understand its nature. Built on an old railway box, it is 33 kilometres long and can be completed on foot or by bicycle (available for hire). You can also do just a short section (6 kilometres), to the Cercado Osero, an enclosure where two bears rescued from poachers live. The afternoon can be used to visit the Prehistoric Park in Teverga, a museum on the caves of Upper Palaeolithic art, the Collegiate Church of San Pedro or Cueva Huerta.
