Desarme Gastronomic Festival

And there are also numerous events with Asturian cuisine that take place in Oviedo. One of the most outstanding is the celebration of El Desarme, one of the most significant and deeply-rooted gastronomic days of all those held in Asturias.

For more than half a century, the city's restaurants and cider houses have been dressing up in their best culinary finery to offer the famous Desarme menu, which is eaten every 19th October, consisting of chickpeas with cod and spinach, Asturian-style tripe and rice pudding. Simply delicious and hearty, and a unique opportunity to commemorate a historical event that dates back to the first half of the 19th century, and which is linked to the Carlist Wars.

As part of this festival, the Cofradía del Desarme was founded in 2012, with the firm intention of promoting this deeply-rooted and flavoursome celebration, which is an ideal occasion for extolling friendship over good food.
