Sailor's Procession of San Juan. Soto del Barco

The town of San Juan de la Arena / L' Arena, hosts the Procession of San Juan de la Arena on 24th June.

After the mass in honour of the Patron Saint, at 13:00 h, the streets of the fishing village host this unique procession with deep roots that marked the beginning of the tuna fishing season when the town was one of the most important fishing ports in Asturias, including the blessing of the waters of the Bay of Biscay. At that time, the sailors, carrying San Juan, San Telmo and the Virgen del Carmen, approach the port.

This event has been declared a Festival of Tourist Interest of the Principality of Asturias, and is part of the Festivities of San Juan.
