Info
The Roman Baths of Valduno were built in the second half of the 1st century AD. Although the existence of Roman remains in the area had been known since the 19th century, it was in 2004, during building works near the cemetery, that excavations began which led to the discovery of part of the ancient bath complex.
Among the preserved structures are the caldarium, used for hot baths, and part of the tepidarium, the warm-temperature room. One of its most striking features is the hypocaust, an ingenious Roman heating system that circulated hot air beneath a raised floor supported by small brick pillars.
Also of note is a semi-circular bath which still retains traces of its reddish decoration, as well as part of the ancient drainage channels.
Centuries later, the site was used as a burial ground, leaving medieval and later tombs situated on top of the Roman structures.
Designated a Site of Cultural Interest in 2023, the thermal baths are notable for their excellent state of preservation. Today, the archaeological remains can be viewed from outside the protected site.
