The hermitage of Santiago or Capilla de arriba is built, according to legend, over the well of Santo Toribio in which the relics of the Holy Chamber were hidden. Like the Magdalena, it dates from the late medieval period.
It has an octagonal floor plan and a semicircular apse. On one of its sides, preceded by a straight section, is the so-called Cueva del Ermitaño (Hermit's Cave). The entire construction is made of masonry, the exterior is protected by buttresses and small openings in the walls, and the entrance door protrudes from the body of the building. It has a semicircular arch. The interior is vaulted with ribs that rest on the buttresses. The apse is covered with a barrel vault in its straight section and a sphere vault in the semi-circular section. The side space to the Hermit's cave is also vaulted. Inside, there is an altar table and remains of mural paintings.
The hermitage of Santiago was restored in 1986 and 1989 by the Regional Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports.
