Under the influence of the imposing Sierra de Peñamayor mountain range lies Bimenes, an ancient land where the geological wealth of Asturias once again comes to the surface in the form of coal. Its entrails are criss-crossed by rivers and streams, Bimenes once perfectly combined work in the mines with livestock and market gardening in small farms. And from time to time, in the middle of the landscape, a palace-house like the one in Martimporra, a monument to the miner like the one in San Julián, or a Romanesque church like the one in Santa María also in Suares, or a route of the mills, which keeps the memory of so much corn milling as there was in the past in an area that today revives traditions like the "amagüestu" or the "mayado" of the apple, not in vain we are in the Cider Shire.

Very sensitive to the Asturian socio-linguistic fact, Bimenes is a land of academics and writers in the Asturian language, who have been the driving force behind the declaration of Bable as an official language in the municipality and as an intangible value of Asturian culture.
