The lyrics of the song 'Mirando al mar soñé' (Looking out to sea I dreamt) seem to be inspired by Carreño, which constantly looks and breathes the sea. A land of sailors with an oceanic vocation, which inspired Clarín himself for his life's work 'La Regenta', it relives its past and present in gestures and places, in festivals and celebrations. Lovers of good food should not miss the sardine festival or its Michelin-starred cuisine, and those who want to join in the traditions should take part in its Holy Week or in the festivities of Christ, one of the devotions with the most pilgrims in the whole of Asturias.
But Carreño is much more than that, it is as rural as any other town in Asturias, with its colourful and colourful bread bakeries, its medieval towers such as Prendes, its many beaches and viewpoints, its canning tradition, as can be seen in the Canning Museum in the capital of the council, Candás, where the artistic vocation is also evident in its open-air museum of marine painting and in the Antón Museum of sculpture. And as if that were not enough, Candás is an Olympic Village, and sports such as canoeing are a religion that has elevated Asturian and Spanish sport to the highest level in the history of sport.
