The Carbayera de El Tragamón is one of the best examples of oak forests remaining today. It is a small wood crossed by the local road, to the south of which there is a group of old oak trees forming a copse, where they are separated and there are no young specimens between them. To the north of the road the trees are closer together and there are younger specimens, together with other species such as plane trees, ashes, willows and elder trees.
It is an ideal habitat for a large number of bird species. The blackbird, robin, chaffinch, wren, wren, flycatcher, blackcap, black redstart, redstart and several species of moorhens, such as the great tit, coal tit and blue tit.
The Carbayera de El Tragamón is located in the municipality of Gijón, next to the Peña Francia stream, to the south of the Universidad Laboral.
