- Title Ribadesella Eastern Asturias
- Open to the public Open to the public: Same days as the Cave Art Centre Closed: January, 13/03 to 07/06, 7 and 8 December
It is possible that the eastern sector of the Tito Bustillo cave was accessed through this cave, but a landslide thousands of years ago made it difficult to connect the two.
It is notable for the considerable size of its main room, where the ceiling reaches a height of 40 metres, today perforated by a natural gap that allows daylight to pass through. The stalactitic and stalagmitic formations, columns and lava flows make up a unique landscape.
The cave has been known since ancient times for its beauty and spectacular appearance, which is enhanced by the skylight, and was also explored archaeologically in early times. The excavations carried out in the Cuevona at the end of the 19th century were among the first of their kind in the Cantabrian region.
From Ribadesella/Ribeseya, after crossing the bridge over the river Sella, take a signposted turn-off, along which you walk about 300 metres until you reach the entrance to visit the cave, in the vicinity of which is the Tito Bustillo cave.
Tickets to visit the Ardines Cave can be purchased at the Cave Art Centre, located 300 metres from the cave.
