Summary Cueto de Arbás Trail

The trail runs through Cueto de Arbas Partial Nature Reserve, starting in the village of Leitariegos, which is accessed via the AS-213 road linking Cangas del Narcea with Villablino, in the neighbouring province of León.

The trail commences on a path behind Los Arrieros Inn, heading gently uphill towards the ski lift, which can be seen in the distance. A few metres on from there it opens onto a wide track, where you turn right towards the telephone repeater antenna, which is close to the trail.

Continue uphill to a well-equipped recreational area, which you leave behind to reach the end of the track at Arbás Lake in just 35 minutes. At the lake, bear left past the signpost to the lake and start the climb uphill. Once you leave the path, you come to a slightly uphill stretch with a stream bed that ends close to the pass. At this point, turn right and climb another steep stream bed that leads to Collado de la Fanetina Pass. During the climb, you can enjoy Arbás Lake in all its splendour and another, smaller lake above it, as well as the two sides of the pass and all the peaks bordering Somiedo.

Once you reach the pass, the trail continues along the ridge that divides Asturias from León, leaving Rapao Peak behind you. The views south from this ridge are amazing, allowing you to contemplate the vast network of mining tracks. A short distance further on you come to the summit of Cueto de Arbás, where there is a hut, antennas and a trig point. From this point, you can enjoy an exceptional view of the Naviego Valley, Fraile Peak, El Cabril Range and El Cornón Peak. And on a clear day, even Las Ubiñas Massif. From here you can only return along the same route.
