Info
The story goes that when Enrique de Trastámara arrived in the area escaping from Pedro I el Cruel, seven local nobles supported him, hence the seven lances that protected him and the name of the route.
This is a route through Las Regueras, through an area of manor houses, starting and finishing at the beautiful pre-Romanesque church of San Pedro del Nora. In between, a mosaic of landscapes, where the human being has a lot to do, in the orchards, the grazing farms, the mowing farms, the large corn plantations for the cattle, but also in the forests of Atlantic holm oaks, frequent in the central area of the route, where the bare limestones abound.
There is no lack of chestnut trees of the Valduna variety, so much appreciated for their fruit; but, without a doubt, the great protagonist of the itinerary is the river Nora and its great meanders, adorned by the riverside woods, the willow groves that give the banks their own personality, even in the middle of winter.
Route
Church of San Pedro de Nora 14
This circular route begins at the church of San Pedro de Nora, of pre-Romanesque origin. It was built during the reign of Alfonso II the Chaste in the 9th century and was burnt down and destroyed in 1936, only to be rebuilt later by Luis Menéndez Pidal in the 1940s, with the addition of a bell tower.
After one kilometre we reach Campanal, where we take the path to the left, which will take us to the village of Rañeces, which we reach the following kilometre.
When we have walked 2.5 kilometres, we come to a turning to the left, which we take, as it takes us to the viewpoint of the meanders of the Nora, from where we can observe the beautiful landscape that the meanders offer us.
Once we have enjoyed the scenery, we return to our initial path that leads us to the village of Tahoces, which we reach at kilometre 4.5 of our route. In the lower part of the village, called Mareo, we can visit its washing fountain; afterwards, we go back up to the village.
We follow the road and, at kilometre 6.3, we take the path to the right, which coincides with the Primitive Way. We follow this route until we reach the village of Valsera, at kilometre 9, where we can see its palace and the hermitage of the Virgen de Fátima. After another 1 kilometre, we turn right and, a few metres further on, we turn left again and continue straight on to reach Rañeces again. All that remains is to return to the beginning, passing through Campanal, and arrive back at the starting point of our route, the church of San Pedro de Nora.
