Faro Vidio – Oviñana (Playa de la Cueva) – Valdredo (Playa de Vallina) – Albuerne - Novellana – Playa del Silencio (Castañeras)

Vidio Lighthouse - Silencio Beach 12,7

The route runs along the cliffs and beaches of Oviñana (here there are several parking areas), Valdredo, Albuerne, Novellana and Castañeras, it takes almost four hours to do it and during the route we will enjoy breathtaking landscapes. It is a demanding route as there are continuous ascents and descents, therefore, a good physical shape is needed to do it in its entirety.

It can be done from Faro Vidio to Castañeras or vice versa, or from Oviñana, Valdredo, Albuerne, Novellana or Castañeras. In some sections it coincides with the Coastal Pilgrimage Route to Santiago de Compostela. Along the route there are some gastronomic areas and transport services: ALSA and FEVE.

If we leave Cape Vidio, we should know that from here we will enjoy one of the best views of Asturias, under its feet is the famous Iglesiona, a cave of about 60 m. high that arises by the action of the waves and that we can visit during low tide, although it is recommended not to go down alone and preferably do it with a specialised company. The path is well signposted, we pass by the descent to Peñadoira Beach and a little further on we reach Oviñana, where we will see the Aldebarán ship and the Cueva beach at its feet.

We continue westwards and reach the Sablón viewpoint, continue along a loose stone path downhill and then uphill, and continue along a small plain and down to Vallina beach. Here we have two options, continue along Vallina beach if there is low tide and save 4 kms without passing through the centre of Valdredo, or go up a 30 m. slope, using rope handrails and exit at Los Zerros to continue along a beautiful path to Valdredo.

We continue along a small slope towards Albuerne, on the right hand side the path descends along the cliffs of Gancedo beach to the river Llendebarcas, in the background Cala Salencia. We continue the route with a climb of approximately two km that takes us to Novellana, following the track we find the beach of L' Airín from where we can contemplate the crag of Fornón.

A steep climb takes us to the area of Las Campas de Novellana, where we find the access road to the beaches of La Caladoria and Silencio and in the background the beach of Gueirúa. Once in Castañeras we can continue along the Camino Santiago section from Soto de Luiña to Cadavedo or vice versa or go back along the same route to Novellana, Albuerne and Valdredo.
