Inaugurated in 2000, the Museum has its origins in the donation of the houses and estate of Llacín, made in 1994 by Teresa Sordo Sordo and Luis Haces Sordo, sons of Porrúa and residents in Mexico. The donation stimulated the creation of the Llacín Cultural Association, which decided to promote, create and manage an ethnographic museum, with the aim of giving the donated goods a cultural and recreational purpose.
The Museum's buildings are located on a one-hectare estate set aside as a public park, with a wide range of fruit trees and woodland. Among the trees is a monumental avocado tree brought from Mexico and planted in 1906. The perimeter of its trunk is currently 7.20 metres.
The Museum aims to be a dynamic cultural centre committed to the exhibition and dissemination of elements of historical and ethnographic interest, but also a place dedicated to researching and protecting Asturian cultural heritage.
The houses that make up the Museum are arranged in two parallel rows connected by an overhanging wooden corridor. Inside you can visit the rooms of a traditional peasant house: vestibule or hall, kitchen, living room, bedroom, stable and cider press, and a series of themed exhibitions dedicated to the production of cheese and butter, the manual manufacture of tiles and bricks, textile processes, traditional folk clothing, carpenter's workshop, wood cutting tools, washerwomen, tools, a collection of enamelled metal pieces.
