It is the least extensive council in Asturias and one of those with the highest per capita income. This is Noreña, a prosperous land nestled in the heart of Siero, very famous for its meat and sausage industries, which give it a unique gastronomy of excellent quality, especially linked to pork products , or 'gochu' as it is called in Asturian. Incidentally, this animal is respected and idolised in this council to such an extent that it has its own graceful monument in the heart of the 'villa condal', as the capital of the municipality is known.
The gastronomic festivals, based on tripe - one of the most typical celebrations, which is the great gastronomic reference point of this town -, adobu, sweetbreads, fabada or sabadiego - a typical Noreñan sausage, which even has its own Order - are one of its most powerful tourist attractions, However, a stroll through the historic quarter of the town takes us back to a noble past of palaces and main houses, and shows us such special landmarks as the Town Hall, the Clock Tower, the bandstand or the Ecce-Homo chapel, all of them witnesses of a history of splendour...
