The Cave of El Pindal is located at the mouth of the Cares River, Deva, at the eastern end of Asturias, in a sector of the coastal rasa known as Cabo San Emeterio.
It has a single entrance overlooking the sea, dominating the coastline, and a longitudinal gallery of some 600 metres, of which only the first 300 metres can be visited. Distributed in five areas, the Magdalenian complex contains zoomorphic representations such as deer, horses, bison, and, most notably, a fish and a mammoth.
The Pindal would have been made at different Magdalenian times, and probably older, over a wide period of time between 18,000 and 13,000 years ago.
How to get there:
From the N-634, turn off at the El Peral crossing onto the RD-1 towards Pimiango. Once there, go down towards the San Emeterio Chapel.
Reservations essential: 608 175 284 (Wednesday to Sunday: 15:00 to 17:00 h)
- Three daily passes (maximum of 10 people each).
- Children's access from 7 years old.
- Visits are not recommended for people with impaired vision or mobility.
- The use of warm clothing and suitable footwear is recommended.
- Animals are not allowed in the cave.
