PR295
Barely a kilometre separates the village of Murias (in the council of Aller) from one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Asturias, tucked away in a small nook on the side of the valley carved out by the river Negro. A thick green mantle of dense woodland covers all the slopes of the mountains that flank the valley, broken only by some meadows and the presence of the village of Murias, with its family orchards and its houses arranged one on top of the other on the mountainside.
The route is, in reality, a gallery formed by trees, mostly chestnut and oak, in addition to the riverside woodland, which is another gallery over the river. On the ground, in the undergrowth, there is a black blueberry tree, a very important source of food for a large number of bird species. Some steps help us in the ascents and descents.
At the end, as if tucked into a niche, the waterfall appears, open, white, standing out against the dark stone, with small lateral jumps that widen and embellish it. Another essential route.
Murias - Xurbeo Waterfall 2,6
We start this short route in the car park of the small village of Murias. This route is suitable for everyone, and its wide path is clearly marked with posts. After 300 metres from the start, cross to the other side of the road, where you will find the information sign for the route and where the path begins.
A hundred metres further on, we start the route going downhill, going deep into the forest until we reach the river, called the Río Negro, which we have to cross. On the other side of the bridge, when we have walked half a kilometre from the start of the route, we turn left to begin the uphill part of the route.
Once you have reached the first kilometre of the route, continue along the track, which runs parallel to the river, enjoying the scenery. Further on we will find another bridge, which we will also have to cross to access the waterfall. In the next 200 metres we will find the beautiful Xurbeo waterfall, the destination of our route. To return to Murias we return along the same track but in the opposite direction.
